How Self-Tanning Works
Loving Tan formulas contain two naturally-derived active ingredients to create a long-lasting, natural-looking tan.

- DHA (Dihydroxyacetone):
A naturally-derived, skin-friendly sugar that reacts with amino acids in the top layer of your skin to mimic the colour of a natural tan. - Erythrulose: Works alongside DHA to slow the tanning process, resulting in a more even, long-lasting colour.
Each formula also includes a tinted colour guide so you can see exactly where you’ve applied. This tinted colour guide rinses off in the shower, while the clear actives continue to darken and develop your final tan over for up to 24 hours. For best results, rinse with water only and avoid lotions or oils until your tan is fully developed.

Tanning Preparation
Hair Removal | Begin with hair removal at least 24 hours before tanning. This allows your skin to calm and your pores to close, ensuring an even finish and preventing tan from settling into open hair follicles. A gentle rinse with cool water can help soothe skin and prepare your canvas.
Exfoliate | Exfoliation is the foundation of a flawless tan. Remove dry skin and any residual self-tan to create a smooth, even surface. Pay special attention to naturally dry areas—elbows, knees, ankles, and feet—where tan can overdevelop. This step ensures your final results are streak-free and long-lasting.
Moisturise | Apply a light layer of moisturiser to any particularly dry areas—hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, and feet—immediately before application. This ensures these areas absorb the tan evenly, developing a soft, natural depth. Avoid moisturising your entire body beforehand, as it can act as a barrier and prevent your tan from developing fully.
Application
Face Tan Application | For your face and décolletage, use the Flawless Face Brush or your fingertips, blending your face tan carefully into the hairline, neck, and ears for a seamless finish. If applying by hand, wash thoroughly afterwards to avoid uneven colour on the fingertips and palms.
Self-Tan Application | Apply your chosen formula to an Applicator Mitt and work in smooth, circular motions across your body. A full-length mirror can help guide your movements. Don’t worry if the tinted guide doesn’t look perfect—its purpose is solely to assist with even coverage. As long as your body is covered with the product, the active ingredients will develop seamlessly.
Rinse + Development
Depending on your chosen product, follow the rinse-off times below:
2 HR Express | Rinse off after 2 hours
8 HR Deluxe | Rinse off after 8 hours
Rinse gently until the water runs clear.
The clear active ingredients in your tan will continue to develop and darken for up to 24 hours into your final colour.
Pro tip: Refrain from using any soaps, moisturisers, or oils during the first 24 hours after rinsing, as these products prevent your tan from developing fully.
Maintenance
A well-maintained self-tan can last for up to 7 - 10 days.
Moisturise | Once your tan has fully developed, hydrate your skin daily with a nourishing moisturiser.
Extend | To further enhance and extend your results for up to two weeks, apply 8 HR Deluxe Gradual Tanning Lotion every other day and your chosen face tan as desired.
